FAQ’s About Domain Name Registration

Is $35.00 the only fee we have to pay for a .com, .net & .org domain name?
When you register your domain name there is an annual fee that is payable to the registration agent (HAVE1.COM) of $35.00 - .com, .org and .net, plus applicable taxes. Please note: this is an annual charge and you will be contacted via e-mail 1 month prior to the expiration for renewal purposes.

How much does it cost for a .ca domain name?
The .ca domain name costs $50 per year (plus GST).

How long does it take for my domain name to become registered once I’ve entered it into the system?
The registration process should not take more than 2-3 days from the submission of the online registration. You can confirm that the domain has been registered by returning to www.HAVE1.com and entering the domain name into the box. The registration information will be displayed if the registration process was successful.

If I register my domain name on the HAVE1.COM Web Site, am I the sole owner of the domain?
Yes you are the sole owner for the paid period of your domain name. As soon as a domain name isn’t renewed, it can then be used by someone else.

Can I pay by cheque?
Yes, even though the domain name registration is a complete “online” process, we do accept cheques. Please note: if making payment by cheque, the domain name will not be registered until we have received the cheque from you.

Can I host my web site with another company?
Yes you can. Please contact us to find out what hosting solutions we currently offer.

How do I change my domain name?
Once a domain name is registered, it is unchangeable. If you’ve made a spelling mistake, there is no possible way to change the domain name once it has been registered. You will have to register another domain name with the correct spelling.

How do I modify my domain information that’s contained on the Domain Name Server?
You can achieve this by going to the following web page http://manage.opensrs.net - Enter your user id and password and follow the instructions.

What is a domain name?
A domain name tells people (and the computers they use) how to find your homepage on the Internet. Each domain name is assigned to a numerical IP (Internet Protocol) address by your host provider. Since people remember names better than numbers, the domain name translates this number into words.

Once I have a domain name secured, how long may I use it?
If there are no trademark disputes, your secured domain name will be yours for as long as you maintain the yearly registration fees.

What are the valid characters for a domain name and how long can it be?
The only valid characters for a domain name are letters, numbers and a hyphen “-“. Other special characters like the underscore “_” or an exclamation mark “!” are NOT permitted. Example: your name.com (not correct, No spaces allowed) Example: your-name.com (is correct)

A domain name can be up to 67 characters long - including the 4 characters used to identify the Top Level Domain (.NET, .COM, or .ORG). Do not type the www. before your domain name when registering

What does it mean to “park” a domain name?
In order for you to register a domain name you need a Domain Name System (DNS) server to host it. When you register a domain name with HAVE1.com, we are hosting your domain name on our DNS. We are holding or “parking” the domain name for you. You have the option to move your domain name off of our servers to another Internet Service Provider (ISP) or host provider at any time.

I have an e-mail which says that my domain has been registered, but I can’t see the Under Construction page. Why?
When you receive the e-mail confirming the registration of your new domain, there are many more steps still to be done behind the scenes. Your domain will be entered into the global WHOIS database, and your registration must travel to all the ISPs in the world. It may take 24-48 hours before your site is active with your domain name (if you are hosting the site).
